Rescue Robot

Development of a robot that independently inspects the underfloor.
With the recent urbanisation of Japan, there is concern about urban disasters occurring underground or in high-rise buildings. Cracks occur when the materials of exterior walls, such as concrete and tiles, are unable to withstand the forces exerted by earthquakes and other tremors [1]. Cracks must be detected and dealt with immediately, as they can lead to water leakage and building collapse. Cracks that occur in dark places, such as the basement of a house, are particularly difficult to detect directly with the human eye, so a remote-controlled robot system is needed that can detect the situation without the need to enter such places. The aim of this research is to construct a system that can be operated at a distance from the robot and can detect cracks in dark places as close as possible to the basement of a house.
